To add a bank account via 'Enter Manually' you require your institution number, transit number and account number.
What is a routing number?
A routing number is an 8-9 digit banking code that identifies the financial institution and branch location associated with a bank account. It includes the following 3 components:
- Institution number
The institution number is always a 3-digit code that signifies a certain bank. A full list of institution numbers for all Canadian banks can be found here. - Transit number
This is the 5-digit number that identifies the location of your branch. If your transit number is only 4 digits, view this article - Account number
This is a 7 to 12-digit number that’s used to refer to one of your unique bank accounts.
Where to find your routing information
- Check the number at the bottom of your cheque

- Log in to your online banking
Usually, you can find these details by logging into your online banking. From there, you should be able to directly view your account, transit, and institution number. Many banks also give you the option to download a 'Void Cheque' or 'Direct Deposit Form', which contains your routing numbers. - Contact your bank
If you are unsure about your routing information, contact your bank. Entering in routing information incorrectly might lead to delays.
